Media Cloud is Salesforce's industry cloud for media and entertainment - renamed Agentforce Media in the Summer '26 release, although both names still coexist on the official pages. Salesforce defines it as a unified platform to launch, monetize and automate media experiences, bringing together three revenue streams: subscriptions, advertising and commerce. This guide lays the groundwork: where it comes from, what it contains, what its editions cost, and who it is built for.
01Where it comes from: an Industry Cloud built on Vlocity
Media Cloud is one of the Industry Clouds that came out of Salesforce's acquisition of Vlocity in 2020. The Vlocity platform became OmniStudio: the foundation of guided screens (OmniScript), cards (FlexCards), data mappings and integration procedures on which the media journeys are built. The product adds to the Salesforce core a media data model (downloadable from the official documentation), the Industries application framework, and the Industries quote-to-cash building blocks: Enterprise Product Catalog (EPC), Industries CPQ, contract management, digital commerce and order management.
The structuring point: Media Cloud is built on Salesforce and integrates with Sales, Service and Marketing. It is not a tool sitting next to the CRM: it is the CRM, specialized.
02The media side: Advertising Sales Management (ASM)
ASM is aimed at publishers selling their inventory - digital, linear (TV, radio), print, out-of-home - in an ecosystem with four personas: the publisher (who offers the inventory), the advertiser, the agency (in-house or external) and third-party vendors (data, measurement, ad serving). The native flow, in five steps:
- Media opportunity - created from the advertiser or agency account.
- Media plan - the opportunity becomes a quote made of placement lines: media type, pricing, targeting (geography, time slot, operating system), with real-time availability checks against the ad server.
- Insertion order - generated from a contract template and signed electronically (e-signature, DocuSign for example, is a separate third-party license).
- Order - submitted through Industries CPQ and order management, then passed on to the ad servers.
- Creatives and tracking - line status, with changes propagated downstream.
What changes everything compared with a general-purpose CRM: the media objects are standard and tied into Salesforce quote-to-cash without a single custom field - the media quote points to the quote, the media line to the quote line, the media order line to the order line. The connectable ad servers Salesforce cites: Google Ad Manager, Operative. One, Sizmek, Facebook, Xandr, FreeWheel on the digital side; WideOrbit, Operative IBMS, Mediaocean on the linear side; integration goes through OmniStudio procedures or MuleSoft. Only one connector ships out of the box: Google Ad Manager. Any other ad server is an integration to be built - and to be costed from the scoping phase.
03The subscription side: Subscriber Lifecycle Management (SLM)
SLM covers the B2C subscriber lifecycle - attract, acquire, serve, retain - with pre-built media journeys. Seen from the subscriber: discover, buy, enjoy, leave, come back. Seen from the publisher: acquisition and onboarding, engagement, retention (upsell, cross-sell, loyalty, churn prevention), win-back. Three interfaces are delivered:
- a self-care portal for the subscriber (managing their plan, payments and devices);
- a 360° agent console for customer service;
- a web storefront for the anonymous visitor.
Subscription billing is flexible - payments, discounts, gifts, renewals - and the pivotal metric is subscriber lifetime value (average duration × average amount billed). The Summer '26 release adds B2B/B2C promotions with a cart and fixed-term subscriptions. Two further applications complete the suite, less documented by Salesforce: Media Commerce Management (personalized content commerce) and Licensing & Rights Management (licensing, negotiations, syndication and content distribution).
04The two editions: Growth and Advanced
Not to be confused with the functional sides: the editions are commercial packages. What we verified on Salesforce's documentation and French pricing page:
| Edition | Contents | Recorded price |
|---|---|---|
| Growth | Sales Cloud or Service Cloud included, media data model, OmniStudio | €325 / user / month |
| Advanced | Growth + Industries CPQ, Enterprise Product Catalog (EPC), order management | €475 / user / month |
| Agentforce 1 Sales / Service | Top-tier edition bundling AI and unified data | €800 / user / month |
List prices in euros, billed annually, recorded on 2 June 2026 on the official Media Cloud pricing page (France); Salesforce revises its price lists several times a year - the official page is the reference on the day of your project. Three licensing details that prevent costly mistakes:
- The license includes Sales Cloud or Service Cloud, not both: wanting both means an add-on that we have not seen priced publicly. Media Cloud does not run "without" a CRM.
- Agentforce for Media is an add-on, distinct from the "Agentforce 1" edition, available on the Enterprise, Performance and Unlimited editions.
- How the four applications (ASM, SLM, MCM, LRM) are packaged commercially is not settled publicly: to be confirmed with your Salesforce contact.
05The perfect use case, sector by sector
Salesforce identifies twelve types of media companies. We add two profiles we come across often. The matches marked with an asterisk are our reading - not Salesforce documentation.
| Sector | Side | The perfect use case |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcasters & studios | ASM (+ LRM*) | Selling linear and digital TV/radio spots on a single media plan; linear planning is native since Summer '26. Program licensing*. |
| Press & publishing | ASM + SLM | Print + digital ad sales with insertion orders, and digital subscriptions (self-care, churn prevention) on a shared customer master. |
| Video & audio streaming | SLM (+ ASM) | Full subscriber lifecycle, plans and options, win-back; hybrid subscription + advertising model for AVOD. |
| Media agencies | ASM (agency persona) | Running multi-publisher media plans for brands. ASM is designed for the sell side: buy-side use is an adaptation*. |
| Video games | SLM + MCM* | Subscriptions and passes, digital storefront; in-game advertising monetization*. |
| Sport (clubs, leagues) | LRM + SLM + MCM* | Brand licensing, subscriptions and ticketing, merchandising, sponsorship*. |
| Digital platforms & UGC | ASM + SLM* | Self-service ad sales, targeting, premium subscriptions. |
| Pay TV | SLM (+ ASM) | Bundles, activation, device management, self-care; spot sales. |
| Entertainment & leisure | MCM + SLM* | Ticketing, experience commerce, season passes. |
| B2B information & data | SLM (B2B) | Professional subscriptions, B2B promotions and fixed-term subscriptions (Summer '26). |
| Retail media networks | ASM | Monetizing in-store, website and app inventory with brands: direct sponsorship + programmatic. A sector cited by Salesforce. |
| Educational media | SLM + MCM* | Subscriptions to courses and platforms, content commerce. |
| Adtech, ad servers, measurement | Ecosystem | Integration partner rather than target: connectors, availability checks, audience data. |
| Subscription-based B2C apps (non-media)* | SLM | Subscriber lifecycle, gifts, churn - Salesforce describes SLM for media; extending it to other apps is our reading. |
06What we will not promise you
- A native budget → impressions calculation. The Salesforce pricing engine never derives a quantity from an amount; that calculation is built upstream (Flow or OmniScript).
- An AI that sells. Only one standard Agentforce for Media subagent is delivered to date: ad proposal management (proposal, pitch, opportunity summary, products by targeting). The rest is roadmap.
- An inventory calendar guaranteed in every org. The direct inventory component is documented by Salesforce; its actual availability has to be checked org by org.
Media Cloud is not one more ad sales system: it is your CRM, finally speaking the language of the media plan and the subscriber.
